Yo dudes! I am off in Singapore so I am in no position to host Blog Melas, despite what Kiruba says. I'll be back only next week. Anyone else wanting to host it instead should mail him and ask for the entries. B'bye!
I'm writing some stuff about my Singapore trip over on my Livejournal blog. Do visit. :)
Send hate mail to Sourav Ganguly, says Indiatimes aka IndiaSlimes. It's not the first time. Last time, they wanted you to send hate mail to Steve Bucknor. What is wrong with those idiots?
Mirchi asks for your nominations for the next Blog Mela, and we're still waiting for Kiruba to post his 10-day late edition on his blog. ;)
Yahoo too will offer 1 GB space to its users. Nice, but can they also match the minimalist yet efficient interface of GMail? Can they get rid of those painful Flash ads?
The Wipro Weblog seems to be dead in the water; almost completely aborted by its owners. I was going to write a blog entry about how crappy it was, filled with corporate-ese and PR gobbledegook, but then I found that JD had already done it for me. Seriously people, if you're going to write, use simple, regular English.
[edited] Folks, this site is now on a new server. If you notice something weird, send mail to madman AT madmanweb [dot] com please.
The Spindian Express is an attempt at critiquing the Indian Express. If they fixed their design, I might be inclined to visit more often.
eBay.in: The assimiliation of Baazee by eBay is complete. Thank goodness they got rid of those annoying pop-up ads on the home page.
NDTVCooks.com is one of those sites that was set up with good intentions but has clearly been abandoned by the people supposed to be maintaining it.
Body parts slang - Damn, who knew there were so many slang terms for body parts. A sure time-waster.
Fake Google Logos, Google Logo Creations, Fun Google Logos, Fabricated Google Brand Variations by Google Fans. Wow!
The Hindu Business Line : Update in a jiffy is an article about content management systems. Or least it claims to be. It is, however, a shining example of the bad copy-paste brand of tech journalism that plagues Indian media. The writer has lifted large chunks of text directly from the respective web sites and just pasted them in. Pathetic!
eBay item 5567661291: Whaddya know? Social Security in USA is up for auction! (Let's see how long that link lasts.)
Sania Mirza is a popular tennis player in India for various reasons. She has a powerful forehand.
Domains by Proxy lets you register your own domain while keeping all your personal information confidential. People like Pradyuman should find this service useful. ;)
We need women like Rashmi Bansal in our Libertarian Cartel. We like people who can call bullshit on stuff like this.
Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy: What if the sun collapses into a black hole? The answer is not what you might think.
Amazon is coming to India. They're setting up shop in Bangalore. And look, they even have a blog.
Former WorldCom CEO Bernie Ebbers convicted on all counts. About bloody time!
Vantage point: Shift ICC to North Korea. Gaurav thinks the ICC's rules of cricket conduct are like North Korean dictatorship. He is wrong, of course. They're a lot closer to the erstwhile Taliban regime.
Gotta love it when someone tastes the food you've cooked and writes such a glowing review of it. :)
Losing faith: Ask MetaFilter has a thread on when people lost their faith and turned atheists. I was a very religious kid (thanks to my parents), began questioning religion and God around the age of 15-16, and turned full-fledged atheist around 18-19. As the years have gone by, I've just got more convinced. Now I have open contempt for religious and supernatural belief. My longer answer is posted on Metafilter.
I have now moved Ravikiran's blog to a new server with a new blogging tool (WordPress) seamlessly, with all his nasty MT numeric URLs automatically redirected to the new WordPress URLs on the new server. One more site done! No more rebuilding madness, thank heavens. (Before you ask for help, I'm getting paid for this. Yes, really.)
opensourceCMS.com is a great place to test out a wide range of open source content management systems and blogging tools without installing anything on your own site.
A Glossary of Political Economy Terms. Nice big collection. Perhaps one day they will translate it all into simple English readable by normal people.
30 Muslim workers fired for praying on job at Dell. Should freedom of religion mean that you can do whatever you want? What if my religion says I should spend 2 hours on lunch?
Please join me in wishing Ravikiran Rao of The Examined Life a very happy birthday. The first digit in his age has changed today. :)
Nilesh is now accepting nominations for the Blog Mela, so please go and nominate your favourite posts from the Indian Blogosphere.
Google Search: the art of making love to a madman shows me as #1. Somebody actually reached my site that way. :)
I just moved Sandeep's blog to a new domain, on a new server, with a new blogging tool (WordPress), seamlessly (yes, it really is that) and with all his nasty MT numeric URLs automatically redirected to the new WP URLs on the new server. Yeah baby!
Maximum pain is aim of new US weapon: "The US military is funding development of a weapon that delivers a bout of excruciating pain from up to 2 kilometres away. Intended for use against rioters, it is meant to leave victims unharmed."
From the "I'm not making this up" department: "Lobsters hate each other and fight over everything all the time. .... Females apparently find this abuse particularly arousing, and they become very interested in the dominant alpha male." Lots more weird-ass stuff in the article, including how female lobsters drug the males by pissing on them. And folks, we savour these creatures as a delicacy.
HindustanTimes.com is conducting a survey of their readers on how to improve their web site. Unfortunately, the length of it gave me a migraine.
Signs you've been in Singapore too long. Hilarious, but you will get it only if you've seen enough of Singapore. And yes, $5 for a plate of noodles is outrageous! $3 at most, thanks. Pass the sambal lah!
